Lori Lightfoot became Chicago’s first incumbent mayor in four decades to be voted out on Tuesday evening. She received just 16.4% of the vote, leaving her significantly behind Chicago Public Schools head Paul Dallas and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson.
Cook, with 35% of the vote, and Johnson with 20.2%, will run against each other in a runoff election scheduled for April 4.
Crime in Chicago has skyrocketed under Lightfoot’s leadership; with the murder rate the highest in 25 years. In the first three weeks of 2023, crime rates overall jumped 61% per the Chicago police.
