European Nations Block Use Of AstraZeneca Vaccine Amid Blood Clot Fears

Major European countries suspended the use of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine Monday amid reports of dangerous blood clots in some of the people that received the shot.

Both the company and international regulators maintain that there is no evidence that the blood clots were caused by the vaccine.

Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Germany all suspended the use of the shot.

AstraZeneca was expected to apply for use in the United States in the next couple of week. According to the company, there have been 37 reported cases of blood clots out of more than 17 million people vaccinated throughout Europe by the vaccine.

Blood clots are considered dangerous because they can cause heart attacks, strokes and blockages to the lungs.

Shares of AstraZeneca (AZN) traded higher on Monday. The stock ended the day up almost 0.72% at $48.77 a share.
