The director of the CDC has a message for America — she’s scared. It’s a “recurring feeling,” she says, of “impending doom.”
With Covid-19 cases rising in the latest week (the weekly average jumped 16% to 63,239 new cases per day according to Johns Hopkins) Rochelle Walensky said during a press briefing Monday that, “Now is one of those times when I have to share the truth.”
“I’m going to pause here, I’m going to lose the script, and I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom.
Hospitalizations are also increasing. Up 4.2% compared with a week ago, according to the CDC.
Public health experts are warning that the increase in variants could prove to be a real challenge for America. The B.1.1.7 variant has been detected in every state except Oklahoma while B.1.5.2.6 has been found in New York City.
