After a two-year hiatus from flying, the Boeing 737 Max returned to the skies today.
American Airlines flew the first commercial 737 flight by a major U.S. airline from Miami to LaGuardia.
In 2019, the 737 Max jets were halted throughout the world following two fatal crashes that killed 346 people. Software issues were said to be at fault. In November, the Federal Aviation Administration approved various changes related to the 737 Max’s flight-control software which enabled airlines to resume flying the planes.
Whether the public will become comfortable enough with the plane is still unclear. Shares of Boeing traded slightly higher, up 0.28%, or $0.61 at 216.70 per share. Share of American Airlines, meanwhile, traded down $0.14, or $0.87% at $15.92 per share.
