The “free speech” Parler app has reportedly again been denied access on the Apple App store platform.
Parler was kicked off the app platform following the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill. At the time, Parler was accused of not doing enough (per Apple, Google, and Amazon) to patrol and control speech that many believe encouraged and contributed to the riot.
In the letter sent by Apple to Parler in late-February and obtained by Bloomberg, Apple wrote, “As you know, developers are required to implement robust moderation capabilities to proactively identify, filter, and object to this objectionable content to protect the health of safety of its users. …After having reviewed the new information, we do not believe these changes are sufficient to comply with App store review guidelines.” It added, “There is no place for hateful, racist, discriminatory content on the App store.”
Amazon web services cut its ties with Parler following the January 6 riot. The company reemerged online in mid-february with support from the cloud hosting services company SkySilk Inc.
