“A coup in the middle of London,” Myanmar’s ambassador Kyaw Zwar Minn described his current status in London. Kyaw Zwar Minn defied the current military coup in Myanmar by calling for the release of civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained in a Feb. 1.
Immediately after, Kyaw Zwar Minn found himself barred from his office Wednesday after his deputy took control on behalf of the military.
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, in a tweet Thursday, condemned the “bullying actions of the Myanmar military regime,” while paying tribute to Kyaw Zwar Minn for his courage. “We condemn the bullying actions of the Myanmar military regime in London yesterday, and I pay tribute to Kyaw Zwar Minn for his courage. The UK continues to call for an end to the coup and the appalling violence, and a swift restoration of democracy.”
