White House Officials Resign After Siege on Capitol

Immediately following the attack on our nation’s capitol building, key members of the Trump administration have announced their resignations.

Mick Mulvaney, the U.S. special enjoy for Northern Ireland and former chief of staff for President Trump, as well as Stephanie Grisham, chief of staff and press secretary to First Lady Melania Trump, and Matt Pottinger, the deputy national security adviser have all resigned from their positions. The resignations come just days ahead of the official January 20th transition and immediately after the mob attack on the Capitol.

In an interview with CNBC, Mulvaney said called the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to inform him that he was resigning from his diplomatic post. “I can’t stay here. Not after yesterday,” the former Chief of Staff told the network.

The President has been widely criticized by members of his own administration and party for failure to discourage the lawlessness that took place on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Four individuals died, including a woman shot inside the Capitol, and more than 50 people have been arrested as a result of the event.
